みな月の日に透く竹の古葉かな   飯田蛇笏

minatsuki no hi ni suku take no furuha kana

            June sun…

            bamboo’s old leaves

            become transparent

Fay’s Note: Dakotsu Iida (1885-1962)   ‘minatsuki’ (literal translation:  month without water) is an old name for June.
