塩田のゆふぐれとなる遍路かな  山口誓子

enden no yûgure to naru henro kana

              dusk coming

              to salt fields…

              a pilgrim

Fay’s Note:   Seishi Yamaguchi (1901-1904).  ‘Henro’ (pilgrim) is a spring kigo.   People wearing sedge a sedge hat, carrying a special stick with a bell and a pannier on their backs, visit 88 places in Shikoku Area in Japan where it was believed that Kobo Daishi led an ascetic life.
