さくらさくら御朱印船の遙かはるか  畠山 弘

sakura sakura gosyuinsen no haruka haruka

              cherry blossoms, cherry blossoms…

              an official trade ship

              far away, far away

Fay’s Note: ‘Goshuinsen’ or ‘shuinsen’ is a ship authorized by the Shogunate to trade Japanese goods overseas.  Trade was prohibited after Japan closed its door in 1630’s.
