まんじゆしやげ昔おいらん泣きました  渡辺白泉

manjyushage mukashi oiran nakimashita

            spider lilies…

            once upon a time

            courtesans wept

Fay’s Note:   Hakusen Watanabe (1913—1969).   ‘manjyushage’ or ‘higanbana’ (spider lily) is an autumn kigo and it was believed to bloom at the edge between the world of the living and the world of the dead.
