Today’s Haiku (July 16, 2015)

夜光虫尚漕ぎ戻る船のあり 高野素十

yakôchû nao kogimodoru fune no ari

            night luminance bugs

            some boats still rowing

            back to the shore

                                    Suju Takano

from “Haiku Dai-Saijiki” (“Comprehensive Haiku Saijiki”), Kadokawa Shoten, Tokyo, 2006

Fay’s Note:   Suju Takano (1893-1976)  I don’t use the word ‘noctiluca’ for ‘yakôchû.’   I thought ‘night luminance bug’ (literal translation of characters) is more poetic.
