Tanka Translation 16: Akemi Itsuji

16     Akemi Itsuji(井辻朱美)

宇宙船に裂かるる風のくらき色しづかに機械(メカ)はうたひつつあり

uchûsen ni sakaruru kaze no kuraki iro shizukani meka wa utaitsutsuari

dark color of the wind

torn by a spaceship—

quietly

the machine is singing

水球にただよう小エビも水草もわたくしにいたるみちすじであった

suikyû ni tadayou koebi mo mizukusa mo watakushi ni itaru michisuji deatta

a small shrimp and an aquatic plant

floating in this watery sphere

they were the route

leading to me

かずかずのはるかさに生きるものたちよ 椰子の木 雨 そして飛行船

kazukazu no harukasa ni ikiru monotachi yo   yashi no ki     ame    soshite hikôsen

the numerous things

living in eternity …

a palm tree      a rain

                                   and a blimp

  1. enjoyed these very much

    • John: The poets in the anthology listed by their ages. I started translation from the back (I mean from “the youngest one”). It is interesting to see in the section “born after WWII (after 1945),” there more female poets.
